Wine Estate

Island style is out, farm style is in!

Step aside, beaches of Thailand, we’ve replaced you with the farm life.

When it comes to affordable and hassle-free getaways, you can’t beat a gorgeous farm with a pool. Say goodbye to overpriced cocktails at the hotel poolside, drink your favourite G&T or a bottle of wine from the farm’s own vineyard, at the pool instead.

We booked a last-minute getaway to Tanagra Wine Estate and Guest Farm, just outside McGregor this past week and it was glorious! It’s part of the Robertson Wine Route and also the Route 62, so exploring the surrounding areas is easy.

I’ve experienced my fair share of island holidays: Thailand, Mauritius, Croatia, Reunion, Bali, Lombok… but nothing quite beats the convenience of a quick 2 hour drive to another form of paradise and the seclusion of the Western Cape farm-style.

Cheers to Western Cape adventures!

Weekend Getaway Pick: Studio in the vineyards at Muratie, Stellenbosch

Posted by popcorncandi on May 26, 2014 Leave a Comment

I LOVE old stuff, I really do. I love to take my imagination back to a time so long gone, that our current lifestyle, the way we live, what we do, the way we speak, seem bizarre.

It’s with this sentiment in mind that I introduce my latest Weekend Getaway Pick – GP Canitz Guest Cottage in Stellenbosch. It was originally used as an art studio by renowned Stellenbosch painter and late farm owner George Paul Canitznow and now boasts a truly authentic vineyard guest house. It is not often that you find a guest house that manages to maintain (what I imagine to be) it’s original personality and I really felt like I was still in that time. A gander through the old books on the bookshelf and the art on the walls solidifies the experience.

I wanted to lock myself up inside with the fireplace roaring, a good ol’ book and a bottle of Muratie’s iconic wines, after a long soak in this big ol’ beautiful bath. So I did.

The best news is that it’s now officially off-peak season, so you can get this little winter hideaway for a steal (R750 per night).

  • I’m defined by motherhood right now, and that’s totally okay.
I’m feeling quite far removed from the ‘real world’ and I think that’s just normal with a newborn and a toddler in tow 🤨
I’ve been equally enjoying the time I’ve been able to take ‘off’ as maternity leave and stressing a lot about getting things back to ‘normal’ again.
My business took a knock while I was having a baby and the stress of getting it back to where it was has tainted this experience quite a bit (related: if you know of any corporates needing digital marketing/social media work, let me know!).
Nonetheless, I feel that the dreaded postpartum days have been kinder to me this time around and I’m emerging relatively unscathed 🤣

  • I saw a quote like this recently and it stuck with me. If motherhood teaches you anything it’s to roll with the punches, forget what happened yesterday or an hour ago or 5 minutes ago and just move on because there’s no time to dwell 🙏🏻
  • Goodbye Fourth Trimester!
I’m so excited to move on forward into the rest of our lives as a mad family of 4 🙌
The first few months of a new baby are rough, whether it’s the first or not, whether the baby sleeps well or not, whether there are feeding issues or not. If you’re in the trenches of those first few months right now, just know that it DOES get better and you have the rest of your lives to reap the rewards of your hard work. (PSA: My IG grid is definitely a highlights reel and if you want to see the madness behind the scenes of #2under2 then keep an eye on my stories)
Big thanks to @nandiappleby for capturing some really beautiful shots of our family today because all I seem to get is selfies with a breast pump and a blurry toddler 🤣
  • 😍Oh West Coast 😍
@houtbaygale is swimming 6km in the Langebaan lagoon tomorrow - wish him luck!
For now, it’s an ice gold Sauvignon Blanc and seafood by the seaside sunset kind of evening 👌
